Anyone here use Progressive? Any thoughts on them? Good/bad/ugly?

The rate they gave me is good, and just to check they gave me some good rates on home/auto as well so I am considering moving everything over to them. But I don't know anyone that has them, or that has used them so I am not sure if they are good, and good to deal with when the need arises.

I carry USAA for home and auto, but they do not cover motorcycles. Instead, they partner with Progressive to provide that coverage for their members.

I have been insured by USAA for the greater part of 20 years. Excellent service, great rates. My parents have been using them for close to 50 years, and both my brothers as well. None of us have found better rates elsewhere, let alone comperable service. The fact that they farm this part of their business to Progressive is enough for me.

I have Progressive for my bikes but have never had a claim (fingers crossed, knock on wood, etc.). Happy with the rates, though. I just went with antique plates on my Seca and Maxim and keep meaning to call Progressive to see if the rates would be even lower.

I have had progressive ins on my 81 650 Maxim for many years in MI. I have a very clean driving record had no claims.
I have full theft coverage and medical included in the policy all for less than 200 for 12 months. The full theft is only a couple bucks more compared to without. They won't cover comprehensive for some reason. I guess they feel parts would be too hard to find or to expensive to replace. They would rather just pay off the whole thing.

I've got Progressive on my bike too and have never made a claim (knock on wood!). I have Maine Mutual for the house and cars but they don't cover motorcycles.

    Cole,

How did you get/do the antique plates?

Went to the DMV (Texas) last week to renew both plates and the clerk asked if I wanted the antique. Cost a few dollars more but are good for 5 years and you do not have to get (read, pay for) yearly safety inspections. They do have restrictions but doubt that is a problem as my riding is purely recreational anyway. I have antique plates on a couple cars, too, and the insurance rates are less per year than I am paying for motorcycle insurance, which is already very low.

I'm using Progressive right now, not too bad. Farmers' was a lot cheaper but that was when I had my car through them.

That being said, it's renewal time and for the Norton anyway, I'm going to go the "historic" route. Plate is 25-year permanent and you can use an "authentic" plate (a plate that matches the vehicle year) of your own choosing; looks like I may go with Haggerty on the "collector bike" insurance, I'm waiting for a call back from my agent.

My XJs get ridden too much (commuting and all) to pull that off with either of them.

yeah I just checked NY DMV for the historic plates and registration(s). This bike will get way to much usage to even be close to trying to explain it ;-)

Progressive seems to have the better price in my area, so I think I will just go w/ them and see how it pans out. Thanks all for the info!

I see some good/horrible reviews online for every insurance company out there so this helps ;-)

Progressive is who I use and the cheapest I found. I have a clean record and just have liability as I figured if there was a mishap parting it out would make the most sense. I didn't think that $96/year was bad at all.

How does that compare with others?

Honestly, just on a whim and so i can give them a chance, I just called my allstate rep and he was able to get everything I have down to a 'close-enough' range so it wouldn't be worth it for me to deal with changing all my insurances over. Plus he didn't drop or reduce anything in my coverage so that's good.

He was saying that their homeowners group has a new system that can really drop the price down - so if anyone has Allstate for homeowners, give your rep a call they might be able to help out. The recalculation saved me 200$ just on that alone for the year.

He quoted me 50$ for my 81' XJ750 seca with 100/300 liability; can't beat that.

Even with comp and a few other things (like medical payments) w/ a 100$ deductible the cost was like 95$ so thats comparable.

Thanks for the heads up on the comp not adding that much to the cost for you. Just out of curiosity, I went to see what comp would do to my premium.

After getting a quote, I found that I could add comp with a $100 deductible for the same price ($96/year) that I was paying for just liability.

I feel better now. Someone trying to steal these bikes is not that common, but it does happen. I believe it was Cappy that had someone try to make off with his bike.

I have Geico for my car and for my bike. I haven't had any problems. Prior to this I had Progressive and AIG. They all had comparable rates.

they all provided similar service. And, I have no complaints on any of them.

I too have Progressive for my car and motorcycle insurance. They were the cheapest I found.

I have good credit and a good driving record until recently ::blush:: I got a few speeding tickets the past year, and also had a wreck with property damage. They didn't raise my rates through the roof, I think now I pay $95.00 a month where before I paid $84.00. (full coverage on my van, liability on the bike now)

When I moved from West Virginia to Tennessee my insurance cut in half. They said because of the amount of liability insurance in West Virginia. I know the reason.. people are sue happy in that state. It's to the point State Farm won't write any new auto insurance policies in WV unless you are already a State Farm customer. (that's another rant for another time.. I'm sooooo glad I got out of that place)

Yeh, in Florida to get an antique plate it has to be 30 years old or older, with an engine at least that age. Few more years before my bike's eligible.

    I have progressive too.
My rate was like $25 a year but, the minimum rate for a bike was $75.
So she started adding coverage until I got to the $75 dollar mark.
I really don't know what coverage I've got but it is way more then the minimum.

    WTF cly_adams...

I pay $33/mo with no motorcycle related tickets (one speeding in the wife's car a few years back). That is with Geico, including the two other cars discount.

Then again, I have only been riding since Aug of last year.
