O.K., so I’ve tried searching the forums, but I’m not finding what I’m looking for. I’ve decided to turn this over to the forums instead.

Here is the issue at hand. I have an ‘82 XJ650 Seca and I love her to death. Probably the most reliable machine I’ve ever owned. Been working on her for a bit now (about 2 years) and I’ve come to the part where I need to replace the mufflers. One side (right side) has just a bit of bubbling on the underside and I know that it’s just a matter of time. The other (left side) has two areas of severe corrosion underneath about the size of two old style silver dollars. One of these areas has a pinhole worked through it already. Not to mention that after 32 years, they’re kinda beat up. The header and collector box are still in beautiful condition and I want to keep those. What I would like to do is keep the overall appearance as close to factory as possible. Within limits, of course

I have found 4-into-1 systems and some stuff from emgo, etc. However, from what I’ve read and would tend to agree with, the factory system was more than adequately engineered. It just looks good too. Kinda classy, IMNSHO.

The question is: Has anyone here had any luck finding/using aftermarket cans that maintain a modicum of the factory style looks? I would really love to hear about it or if possible, see them.

    Thanks,
    Jon

Make that two !! I have an original left muffler ready to go on and my right side sounds in about the same condition.

A guy I know put used FJ1200 mufflers on his XJ750RL he bought on ebay. HE had to modify the brackets a bit, though, but not much.

I'd think that a pair of FJ600 mufflers would be ok for a Seca650. BUt if you're looking for something new, that's a different story.

Talked to the guys over at Dime City. I think that I might have a solution. I want new only because I want to be the first one to scar them up. It's gonna be a couple of paychecks into the future, but I'm fairly confident.

The only outlet that I know of for used would be ebay. I had an incident with them a few years back that guaranteed that I will never EVER think of going through them again.

Anyway, I'll let y'all know what happens.

I've found a company who claim to manufacture near replica original mufflers for an XJ650 Seca. It is Overlander Equipment based in Melbourne, Australia and they are AUD 550 a pair (so 93% of that to get USD equiv). I haven't contacted them yet as mine still hanging together.

I bought a full system for my XJ650. The only one that I could get was from MAC exhaust that sells them on ebay. Problem is it is for the XJ750 and so has different mufflers. It is a two into two system that is two headers going right through from the engine to the mufflers and so does not have the XJ650 under motor collector box. The system fits up ok but you have to drill a hole for the muffler bracket just in front of the rear foot peg mount. I have had this system on for 12 months and there is no rust or any problems so far.

I have also need (at least soon) to get new mufflers on my XJ900. Regarding to the site listed in post over mine there it looks like mufflers are the same for 650/750 and 900 models. My bike looks like this before my lowsider that made some scratches to the muffler and some other broken parts on the right side

and here is my crack on the left side muffler

Is it the same mufflers on these three models?

What a shame ! That's an immaculate bike.

No. All of the original the mufflers are different. The 900 are larger and the 750 different style. Someone else here will have to fill you in on the specifications.

There is also a company here (yes, on the other side of the world) that does great sounding mufflers for the 900. The company is Staintune (pronounced Stay-in-tune). I don't know if they still make them but you might find a used set. You could try Campbells and Wemoto in the UK

Thank you, I have been into Wemoto also. Probably going to be that one I get.

It is not much that is broken hardest part is the cover on the engine that I have a question about in another thread. And the scratches in the fairing, that might be a winter job. As checking valves and cylinder head gasket, one cylinder has only 7 bar and the other three 9 bar.
