    Hi all,
I have an 83 650 maxim, the mufflers are a bit beat up and rusty. I notice they are welded to the collectors and not fitted like on the seca. Has anyone removed them from the collectors with success, how did you get them off? Do you have to cut the welds and do they pull apart? Is it easy to replace the mufflers or shoul I just look for a new collector/muffler set? Anyone with experienced opinion the help woulb be appreciated.

I have the same question for my 81 650 Maxim. The originals just decided to split into two pieces.
I am currently looking at Helix or Emgo universal mufflers.
Any insight or help sure would be appreciated.

    Santos,
Did you cut the old ones off and weld the sportster pipes on?

no...the ones that were on were slip ons to begin with. It looks like the oringinals were cut off, then there is a spacer ring over the end , the sportster ones slip over that spacer then clamped.
