My 2nd hand engine is black?????? is it an XJ or what?????

    Hi guys can anyone tell me if the xj550 engine came in black (bit of a bird question I know) but look, I put replacement engine in my xj550 secondhand obviously and the bloke told me it was xj engine and it certainly looks the same but since I've started looking for carbs for it I'm now wondering if what I've actually got is a FZ engine, only cos I've found many pics of these in black but none of an XJ in black.... Any clues?? Anyone know how I can tell??? :?: :?

    my xj550 maxim engine was black with the fins silver and the side covers polished, but not anymore :D

    There is an "engine number" (serial number) on it somewhere, a series of letters and numbers similar to your VIN, you should be able cross reference it back. It's also possible the engine got painted sometime after leaving the factory...
