for some reason my bike wont idle, when I turn the idle screw it loads up and has no throttle response. What else can I adjust to make the bike idle a tad higher

Is that the one located between carbs 2 and 3 on the back?

No, the one between 2 & 3 is the idle screw. If this turning this screw out will not raise the idle, then you have other carbs tuning issues.

When was the last time you know the carbs were cleaned properly? Bad idle and performance almost always ties back in with dirty or misadjusted carbs. You have to have them clean before you can adjust them properly, so there is step one.

I have been told by an OLD Harley mechanic that you should put some Stabil in your gas now and then and run it. He says it will prevent float needles from sticking and help keep all the passages in your carbs from gumming up during your ridding season. More effective then running carb crap through the engine.

It's too lean on the idle or pilot circuit... Confirm: let it warm up for 8 or 10 minutes and then try to bring the idle up in the same way and it will probably respond...

taking the pilot screws out will richen it. try to find a way not to guess though by using a colortune or other method documented in posts on this site for tuning the low end by ear.

others will certainly say check valve specs, clean the carbs, etc. all correct if you have done this stuff at appropriate intervals

Do yoyu have the same issue when the bike is fully warmed up? Like let it idle for 10 mins or ride it and try this again please? Same response when warm?

Also, what size pilot jets are in the carbs? And did you "clean" the pilot jets with a wire or anything through the tiny hole?

Finally got a chance to tear out the carbs again. I used 2 tiny wires, twisted them and pulled them back and forth in the pilot jet and now it idles fine. It appeared to be clean but there was just enough restriction to cause it to idle funny.
