In the middle of my full rebuild and found a random part on the floor on the opposite end of the garage. Looks to be some sort of bearing/bearing related part as it had a light oil coating. I've got the final drive apart but cannot see where it could have gone. I've replaced a lot of other bearings so Im guessing it could be the remnants of one I've already torn apart and replaced. Familiar to anyone?

At this moment it's the final drive, but the engine is also dismantled. That's bagged and tagged awaiting paint.

Yeah, I've got the service manual, Haynes manual and parts diagrams. Still awaiting a dial gauge before completion of the final drive.

I went through multiple diagrams and couldn't find the part either. Very possible it's been laying there awhile and I just stumbled across it. Multiple projects it could be a scrap from.

It appears to be the spacer or collar for the axle, where the wheel fits up against the final drive, OR the center-of-wheel spacer, they both look the same and differ in length just slightly.

I don't think either have an oil hole though. I'll check mine after lunch since it's already apart.

Yeah, I know my axle spacer is about twice the length of the mystery part. Whatever it is it definitely spins and requires oil...

And speaking of gear lash, does the gear lash tool 90890-01231 work for an XJ650 or does it have to be the 90890-01230?

Looks like the inner race thingie for a needle bearing. Mounting shaft/bolt goes through the middle.

Part 16 on the starter clutch diagram looks like it could be something. I'll have to dig through my bagged parts to see if I'm missing the "bush".

That could very well be it. It looks like the right length and diameter.

Yep. It was the bush for the starter clutch. Fortunately found it now and wasn't stumped to what the hell happened to it in a couple weeks.
