*i say squid cause I havent ridden in about 8 yrs.. so going thru a 2nd newbie phase*

So, had to run some errands, and decided to take the 750 seca out for a spin, fillup etc..

Feeling a bit froggy I was gettign deep into 1st, and 2nd.

well I probly got a little too deep ;p clutch slipped on the shift.. i dont know..

I over revv'ed, didnt seem too bad, but sounded like close to redline..

After that it fell on its arse, wand was lugging/missing at WOT

First thought was "#$% headgasket".. no oil.. no smoke (still chunging along worried if I let ti stop where it was it wouldnt get home..)

I was trying to keep the RPM >4k in 4th (i was in a 65 zone.. doing 50 with no good spot to move over)

After a bit I can to a side road, when I downshift.. Shazzzaaaam..

It was happy as a clam again..

This all took say 45 sec, 1 min.. ( possibly skewed time since i thought I roasted my new toy  )

so... Question: What the Heck could it (i) have done ?

For a second, i thought floated valves.. but I would think those would have came back @ 4k.. (or gutted pistons/valves etc)

So I am thinking my floats may be off, or I have a fuel flow problem and sucked it dry pulling that hard..

Another habit plays into this.. IF the bike sits for a couple days, It need a bit on prime, and a good warmup or it starves for fuel @ 1/4 throttle for a few mins..

and today the bike was a PITA to start, primed, nogo, choke.. nogo,

figured i had flooded it, and let it sit.. nothing..

pulled the plugs, dry as a bone..

Thought.. hmm kinda low on gas.. tried prime/res (AGAIN)..

Off to the races, and it didnt miss a beat (well till I tried to grenade it)

Anyway, thought you guys might like a good mystery.. :p

I'm thinking maybe the petcock if it's like my 650, I'm don't know anything about the seca.
Mines vacuum operated. If it is, good be a leaking vacuum hose, or a bad diaphram
If you have an inline filter it could be getting plugged up.
Or you may have already hit on it yourself, and it might be something with the floats or level.
    my 2 cents, good luck

In the past, has the bike been sitting for a long time? Dirty carbs? Rust in the tank? Try running some Seafoam throught the tank and install a fuel filter before the petcock. Clear filter will alow you to see the fuel running through it

The tank is clean, i emptied it to shoot some rattle can paint on it :p

It has had 1 tank of New gas thru it, and this tank I put carb cleaner in.

The PO had put an inline filter on, I'll have to see if it has any markings but looks like a Visu filter (clear case, stone in the middle)

    Like the 701c listed here : http://www.visufilter.com/

I dont see any flow rating, so I might remove it and see if I have any other problems.. if not swap to a larger paper element filter ?

Was going to ride the bike this morning.. Started ok..

Then about 2 blocks for the house it started cutting out again, this was going slow..

Thinking the petcock might be closing off (like it lost vacuum)

happend like 3 times, always around an upshift.

also i noticed the petcock seems to have started leaking a bit around the knob :(

    Lucky Me :(

Maybe it was weak and just finally gave out.. Guess I'll tear it apart and have a look.. should at least learn something :p

Any "gotcha's" I should look for in it ?

Gotchas for the petcock? Search the forums here, there are a few.

    1) The OEM 'petcock rebuild kit' does not contain the diaphragm or spring.
    2) The diaphragm is VERY thin - be careful when separating the parts and pay attention to how everything fits together.
    3) There's a spring on the backside of the diaphragm - don't lose that.
    4) Petcock rebuilds don't always work.
    5) Many suggest going to an On-Off-Res petcock instead of the vacuum-controlled one. Again, use the search to find the source of the recplacement if you're interested (about $74 IIRC).
    6) Search the forums for 'petcock' ;)

    Good luck.
