I have a 1986 Maxim XJ700 X and I need a motor. Any info on where I could get a used or re-built motor would be great. I could also use info on just getting a re-build kit. Shop told me to get valves re-seated and the heads gone over, would this be recommended? Any info will be great! Thanks

where are you located? there is an entire bike in the classifieds in GA for 800. I picked up a complete x engine for fifty bucks off CL.

When I pull an engine apart, the entire top end gets done. complete valve job, rehone the cylinders, all new gaskets and o rings...I just go oem for those...yep, pricey, but correct....

I'm in the middle of building an X engine for my project. The whole top end came off, new gaskets, cylinders honed, ring gaps checked, stripped, primed, and repainted. I just finished cleaning and polishing the valves, next step it to lap the valves and seats, then put new stem seals on. I'll repaint the head, and cover, too. I'm planning to do the shims before I put the engine in the frame.

    I have a complete 85 XJ700
    It has good Hitachi carbs.
    Bike is in Central NH

It was a "Rat Bike" project my son (and I) started.
The engine (at one time) ran with carb cleaner sprayed down carbs.
    Carbs needed overhaul, so
I took them off, cleaned them up
bought new jets, float valves, gaskets, ect about $200
Then my son joined the army
Bikes has been sitting outside for 4 or 5 years.
The Carbs are off and stored inside.
I'll sell you the the whole bike including new carb parts
for $150 That sless than the new carb parts would cost.

Here is a pix of bike from a couple years ago.

It's in sad shape, good parts bike or rat bike project.
I never rode it so don't ask silly questions.
I would rather it go to a good home than my scrap metal dealer.

I'm not going to monitor this site so
