No idea myself, but the indentation for the nameplate looks a bit long for Honda. Kawasaki, mayhaps?

Not sure - most tanks of the period from the big four had hinged, locking caps, whereas this is just a plain screw-on. Thinking poss Suzuki?

The petcock hole looks Yamaha-ish but could be any Japanese manufacturer (which does narrow it down) and those two tabs at the rear are part of a HINGE of some sort... they look very similar to the frame tabs for the Yamaha seat pivots on the side-hinged seats. Again, more evidence of Japanese lineage rather than necessarily "Yamaha."

    After another look, think it's a '73/4 RD200 item.

It sure looked like it could be an RD 200:

    Or not? http://www.suzukicycles.org/photos/visi ... st_500.jpg

Then I remembered my old motorcycle Jedi training: "Let the fiche be with you, Luke. Use the fiche..."

Mid-late '70s Suzuki; probably GT185. And here's why: Those tabs at the back of the tank aren't part of a hinge; they're hooks to engage the tank retaining strap. On those bikes (I checked 1973 through 1977) the rear of the tank is held down by a short rubber strap with a wide rectangular metal clip that engages those two tabs. Here's a pic: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUZUKI-FUEL-TAN ... 56332683fe

The wide clip hooks on the tabs.

Some of their dual-purpose/enduro bikes used a similar tank retaining system so it might be a different model.

Oh, and it looks like Suzuki may have been using petcocks from the same manufacturer as Yamaha at the time.

I think you're right Fitz... I thought GT 185 earlier, but dismissed it on account of the screw cap. However, GT185M/A/B had these, prior to adoption of the hinged one.

I know its not a 360 honda tank. the petcock hole for a 360 is round. The cl360 was my first bike. But that color is very close to what mine looked like.
