Need better seat for XJ700S or will have to sell....update

    I am on the fence about selling my mint XJ700S.

    I need a more comfortable seat for my girlfriend, and if I cant redo the stock one I will have to sell this one and get a touring bike. She tried the seat on a 87 Yamaha Venture for a long ride ( 2 hrs ) at the end of last season, and it was night and day better for her. I have a chance to buy the Venture if I hurry up, but would have to sell my Maxim! We just can't do longer rides on the current set up. She has some medical issues that make it very difficult. If anyone has transplanted a seat or bought an aftermarket one that fits and could let me know I would be in your debt. If not I am afraid my XJ days are numbered...

    How about buy another one off eBay, and have it resculpted to your specs by these folks: http://www.sargentcycle.com/custserv.htm

    Do a forum search, somebody else just posted a good review about Sargent's recently.

    If you want to do long rides... Maybe the venture is the better bet...

    However, there is a company (name slips my mind) that was talked about recently that can refoam and/or reshape your seat.

    Hate to say it, but my experience (been a while) is that the 700 is not a "Touring" bike, but like any bike, can be toured with.
    If your lovely lady friend is more comfy on the Venture then get it. Sure, you could get another seat of eBay, get it resculpted at $$$ costs and it may work, but then again you could invest a bunch of money and still have an uncomfortable seat.
    The Venture is a known comfortable ride as you described, the refit is an unknown that may consume $$$ that could have been used on the Venture.
    I know I'd hate to have the descision you have to make, but when all reasonable considerations are thought out, Your girlfriend "IS ALWAYS RIGHT"! :twisted:

    Crunch some numbers and see if it's at all possible to have both bikes, a little sacrifice here and there may pay off later.
    I don't know you or your lady friend, but it would suck big time to sell the 700, buy the Venture, then have her turn around and say "You know, I'm not really into riding that much anyway! 8O
    Keep us informed as to what you decide to do.
