I'm finally getting around to sorting out some issues on a XJ1100 I picked up. I got her up and running but noticed that I have no taillights – brake lights work fine and both elements on the rear bulbs are good. I pulled the seat and noticed that the PO spliced a “Y” connector (black and green) between the taillight feed (blue) and a white red striped wire above the battery (see pic). I’m assuming they did this to circumvent the battery warning display (it still was on anyway). I disconnected everything but noticed I’m still not getting any voltage to power my taillights.

Could this setup have caused problems over time somewhere “upstream”? I’m in the process of getting a wiring diagram but in the meantime, any suggestions on where to look next? Are there any inline fuses tucked away anywhere? I’m tempted to just find a switched power feed and splice it in but want to do it the right way.

    Thx!

So it looks like what they did should work as long as the "tail" fuse is not blown or there is not a wiring issue or contact issue with the fuse box.

I am not sure about the 1100, but on the Maxim and Seca 750's with CMS the preferred method of keeping the battery indicator somewhat useful is to install a 6.2K resistor between 12V and the battery sense line - W/R wire. The current configuration of applying 12V directly to the battery sense line is only useful to defeat the battery warning.

I assume if you connect the L/W bullet connectors you still don't have tail lights? The parking lights also run off the tail fuse, are they illuminating?

Yuppers, I disconnected this aftermarket mod and tested the L/W bullet connection directly but had no power. This wire only does a short run before it gets wrapped up in the harness so I have to figure out where it comes out so I can do some further testing. Thx!

And what about the parking lights? If they are not working it points to a possible blown fuse / poor connection
