I recently bought a 1982 XJ650 Maxim in almost perfect shape for $800.00. I'm cleaning the engine and putting on new gas tank badges. The exhaust looks like brand new.....doesnt even have that blue discoloration on the pipes near the engine like I have seen on some bikes. Anyway, just noticed from pictures of other Maxim's that mine doesnt have the engine crash bars with the foot pegs. I have Googled them and checked on eBay, even e-mailed a seller on ebay that makes crash bars with no luck at all. Anybody know where I could get NOS crash bars for this nice bike? Thanks

ebay and a little patience is how I got mine. I paid $25. I have to admit that I had a big smile on my face when I scored them. The timing was great too since about a week later I screwed up my left knee and it hurt to keep it bent but it felt ok on the highway peg once I shifted through the gears.

btw, there are a couple of different styles and sometimes they're innacurately described on ebay(shocking!) so look at all of the engine guards and ask the seller questions.

If you're looking for the small type that is a single unit on the left and on the right, I don't have that. BUT, I do have a single unit that bolts to the front of the frame and is sort of like a big rounded rectangle with footpegs as part of the unit. You can also bolt on extra pegs. It it near new condition with just a few minor scratches and they aren't visible unless you're just a couple inches away. Check my gallery and I think it is still visible on one of the older pics. I took it off when I installed the fairing. If that is what you're looking for, email me. It may take a few days for me to get back to you since I don't check this site as often as I should (gasp...the horror!!!!!!)

Wow, I like this forum already. Yeah mikeg, had my eye on a set made for an 82 XJ650 that were like new with the pegs (the small ones with a bar through the middle that make them almost look like the letter E) but lost out on that auction. I have a bid in on a pair that are NOS now, they said they have a Yamaha label on them and I saved the pic and compared to ones that fit the XJ.......looks real close. But I tell you what hogfiddles, I like the one you have the more I look at it. I used to have an 81 Honda CB750K that I bought brand new with a Vetter fairing and it also had a crash bar/highway bar just like the one you have with nice footpegs on it and I loved it. I'm new to this forum and still tryin to find my way around here.....I will PM you about that for sure. Much appreciate the feedback all....Thanks!
