Need help identifying carb

    Hi i have a maxim 1982 xj550 engine but it appears that the carbs dont belong to the engine, can anyone tell if i can use this carbs with the engine or what bike belongs to?

    That last picture has the info you need to ID the carb bodies. You may need to look at the jet sizes to narrow down the application, unless you can make out the model numbers that were stamped ink on the float bowls.

    my guess would be Seca II. Whatever, they are down-draught carbs and not suitable for your XJ550.

    You need Mikuni BS28s from a 550 maxim (or seca). You might also get away with BS30s from an FZ600 or a YX600 radian at a pinch -for any Mikun BS you will need the correct intake rubbers too. As said those you have are unsuitable as they are intended to be used at a more inclined angle. I would be interested to learn though if the bike ever ran with those !
