I had to take my wheel off my 85xj to powder coat the forks. Now that the speedometer is reconnected with the wheel, it does not work. I took the cable off to inspect inside but there's nothing there. I can't get my speedometer or odometer to work. can someone please help? :(

So are you saying you can't see the tip of the cable in the sleeve when you disconnect it from the wheel? Didn't there used to be a square tip that kind of plugs in to the opening on the wheel hub?

And, this may sound dumb, but did you road test it yet? First time I had my front wheel off, then put it back on, I spun the front wheel by hand to see if the speedo was working, but apparently it's hard to spin it fast enough by hand to see anything on the guage.

I took the cable off and did not see anything but a open hole there. I looked at the cable end and it was the same thing. I've put about 15 miles on it since its been back together. I read the manual and it seems that I put it back together right. Im stuck on this one.

My son-in-law put a new tire on the front saturday. He had disconnected the cable from the speedo drive and the cable just slide out and got kicked over to the side. So check around the bike to see if it's lying around, it'll be about 2 1/2 to 3 ft., black and round with square ends.
