Ok I've seen some negative reviews for the K@L carb rebuild kits. I was told they are not the exact same as OEM, an that adjustments would have to be made to get the K@Ls to work. Im running 1985 hitachi on a aircooled yamaha maxim 750. I recently found a Outlaw brand carb repair kit an was wondering if anyone has ever used their kits?

The only problem with K&L kits in the jets in the kits are never the correct size( mains and idle). I have seen that with all after market carb kits. Buy the K&L kit then order jets from Hitachi. I have found that most aftermarket carb jets are not exact in their sizes, I always buy OEM jets.

the k&l needle has a rubber tip instead of the metal tip that was oem. I replaced mine in the rebuild because the tips fell off from age
xj4ever sells kits with all metal needles
the K&L needle is also 1mm longer and will require float adjustment
no to say if you had the original adjust would not be needed

click logo in upper right of page or go to

I had an 82 Virago got the K&L kit with the jets 122 main the rear pipe would glow orange could not get it to run right period. Looked close in manual 122 was right for 84-87 , but the 82 called out for a 124 and 132 , ordered new jets from Jets R Us ....ran fantastic after that I guess the rear cylinder needed more fuel. The place I got the carb kits swore that was the correct size ;) Some times you get what you pay for.

These are the outlaw ones I'm thinking of using, but now that I'm getting good feedback about the K@L I may go that route. I'm only doing the needles an seats, jets are gonna stay the same for now..

in the KL kit the oring for the mixture screw is a little thicker than the oem ones but can be used.

out law may just be repackaging the K&L kits
compare the kit part number or send an email to them and ask

I have recently seen this pratice with allballs bearing kits
