Let me preface this with i will never get rid of my xj550. She'll always be my baby. Yet im starting to out grow her and wqnt more out of a bike. Ive looked around and havent found anything that suits my desire. I really love the look of the xj and want a similar cruiser style. I had my eye on the yamaha stryker but some days it just doesnt sit right with me. So what do you guys suggest? Im open to anything except harleys. Preferwbly cruiser style but i do like the fz and r1. 😏

Welll.. thanks for the help!!! All sarcasm aside, i bought a 2012 Yamaha Raider S, hopefully picking it up this weekend. Best part is the wife let me keep the XJ! Just can't part with the girl, unless i know she's going to a good home. Probably park it until my kids old enough to ride!

Thats a link to the new Star (Yamaha) Bolt. I saw one at Yamaha's display this past weekend at the Austin GP, they are really comfy and a good size for me or my wife.

The bolt was one of the bikes I was looking at as well, but personally I wanted something a little more stretched out than the bolt with more power. I'm a tall guy and the bolt wasn't comfy to me. Hence going with the Raider. Plus being that I'm keeping the XJ I feel if I got the bolt that since the stances are so similar I'd never wanna get back on the XJ. With the different bikes atleast I have two options for riding positions, which will encourage me to ride my high school sweetheart.

Cool, yeah the Bolt is not for the long of limb. I've never ridden one of the big Star bikes, but I rode a couple Big Twin Harley's and just confirmed why I preferred the Sportster to bigger heavier machines. That being said, I bought an XLH883 back when I still had my XJ550 Maxim and they were so similar I sold the Maxim shortly thereafter. I thought they'd be different enough to keep both, but everything the XJ could do the XLH could do better. "Something different" would've been an adventure bike or sport tourer. But that's just me I don't like duplication of purpose in my machines.

gday steber, i only just found this thread, so its a bit late but none the less for me i went up from my xj650 to an fj1200. I find theres more power than you'll ever need and they look good to me anyway. Just like the XJ its bullet proof and with a couple of mods im making it suit me, i have a few bikes but this is the one i'll be keeping as a rider, , ken

You really need a CBR1100, it's a good bike to move on from a 550, because it's like two 550's bundled into one convenient package!

    (not really).
