    My Name is Jose and live in new mexico.Picked up a non running 1985 maxim. My interest in this bike first getting it running. Then wanting to make into a bobber style bike. The issue I'm getting is the starter don't crank unless i jump the starter solenoid then it cranks but won't start. Don't think im getting spark. That is where I'm at trying to enjoy this bike. I do have a 2003 hayabusa my other bike.

    Do you think you aren't getting spark, or do you KNOW you aren't getting spark? Easy way to test is to pull all four plugs, take one new plug and stick it into one plug boot at a time, hold the end of the plug against the engine and hit the starter button. You should see a nice fat blue spark. Do this for all four plug wires.
    Be aware that this will only tell you whether or not you have a spark. Next, you will need to check your valves, make sure they are I thin spec. Then its time to break open the carbs and completely clean them followed by a proper sync. Once all this is done, you will know that you have spark, gas and air. These are the holy trinity of making an engine run. There is other work to do to make the bike safe, but that can come later.

    Once the bike is safe, then and only then is it time to bob it.

    Welcome from Las Cruces, I lived in Alamogordo for about 7 years.

    You could have an issue with the safety circuit, which will disable the starter circuit and spark. Shorting across the solenoid effectively defeats the safety circuit for the starter, however, if the safety circuit is deployed, it will also shut down the TCI, which will cause no spark.

    Two relays are used in the safety circuit to control the starter and the TCI – Starter Relay to control the starter and the Side Stand Relay to enable the TCI, which controls spark.

    So, either the bike has to be in neutral, or the clutch pulled in and the side stand up for the safety circuit to allow the bike to engage the starter relay and enable the TCI.
