Been too busy for bikes for the last 20 years with workin', ex's etc., but decided last summer I wanted something to ride again. I always liked how the Yamaha's looked and after reading the XJ reviews on Motorcyclesurvey.com I was sold. Soon afterwards I got my "82 650 Maxim and started rebuilding the carbs. OMG!!! I figured "how hard could it be?" Anyway thanks to the manuals, the forums I stumbled across in here and Chacal's fantastic parts list I got it running about 85%. Still having trouble getting it to start when cold so I plan on doing the carbs again following more of the expert advice in this site. (Less shortcuts this time LOL!)
Then in Sept I stumbled accross a sweet "86 700 Maxim X that I couldn't resist. She seems to be runnin' real sweet so I'm gonna ride that one while I get the '82 runnin' better.
I just wanted to post a BIG THANK YOU to all the members who have taken the time to post such helpful info in here for those of us who just want to ride but don't have a clue about repairs.

Congrats on the X. I'm hooked and want to find another one. I dream of a barn find and bringing it back to life. A lot of work, but rewarding.
