Hello all. I have been prowling around this site for a couple months now. So I guess it is about time I introduced myself. I bought an 82 XJ650RJ Seca back in June. This is my first bike and a friend (who has an XS1100) said it would be a good beginner's bike. It was supposed to be in good running condition. But pretty quickly I found out that it was a little more of a project-bike than I was planning on. I have been fixing it up and learning lots, with the help of this site. (Thanks all!) It is running pretty good now, way better than when I got it. Still some issues need attention. But having lots of fun.

Here is what I have done so far:
    - new rear tire
    - ripped down, cleaned and "bench-synch'd" carbs
    - replaced leaky fuel tap with brand new one (which has now started leaking)
    - replaced broken speedo cable
    - replaced stripped cam chain tensioner
    - pulled engine out and stripped down frame; got hole in frame welded-up / centre stand fixed
    - replaced leaky engine gaskets
    - setup valve clearances
    - replaced fork seals
    - rebuilt fuse block

I wonder what will break this week?

Check out pictures in my gallery.

I just got my 82 XJ650RJ tonight. It too needs some work (side cover, new exhaust, new bars and bar pods) but for what I paid it was a steal since it does run! Other bikes I saw in the same price range needed "some" to "a lot" of work just to get them to fire up. I will post pics of my RJ when I get her off the trailer and in the shed to begin doing some work to her.

I like the bike! It's good to see some more Canadians to share with as well. I came into my bike recently (August) through a similar method and have completed a list a lot like yours so far. Hopefully by the time the snow leaves I will be ready for the new riding season. Welcome!
