    Heys guys and gals.

Just picked up a new to me 85 XJ700, think I made out ok, traded for an older Xbox.

She needs some love and the previous owner had it sitting outside for quite some time. Seems to have awesome compression and spark. But fuel side needs some love to say the least.

Planning on doing a complete teardown and rebuild. Utilizing OE and aftermarket to make her a bit better than OE.

Will be doing lots of reading for sure (actually already have) and sent me nice list to Len to hopefully get her purring nicely to begin with.

Here she is on Day one. I have the seat, it was just off of it when I loaded it.

Well it was an original Xbox One....I upgraded to a one S. I figured worth on everything to be around 350.

Sadly, after digging into Carbs.....Gonna cost a bit to get them tip top shape. But planned on exhaust and was gonna do pods, but just gonna do a drop in filter now :).....now to figure out how to get airbox back into frame.

Plan on investing a decent chunk of change ~ $800 to make the bike SAFE and RELIABLE. Tires, brakes, petcock, carbs, shocks, fuse box, etc. all necessary evils on a 30 year old bike.

If this is your first bike project it is highly recommended that you get it running in a stock condition prior to attempting pods.

When you consider the bargain you got on the purchase of the bike, trust me, the juice will be worth the squeeze! For less than a downpayment at the HD dealership, you'll end up with a faster, smoother, more unique ride, plus you gain knowledge and skills on the way! Enjoy the ride .

Very well bought, and a very nice looking bike, maintenance is all that these bikes usually need , well designed and reliable , you will have an excellent machine for many years.

You'll fall in love with the 700------see my gallery

I wouldn't bother with aftermarket parts, though. Stay with KNOWN Yamaha parts........unless you're getting parts from Len, then it's ok to go with aftermarket ---cuz his aftermarket parts are BBETTER

I'd avoid the complete teardown or you'll meet a new girl and it'll end up on ebay as another failed project in pieces and worth nothing. Do what you need to get it rolling and start enjoying it. Take on smaller projects on the bike each winter to get it as you want it. Scan ebay and see how many failed project bikes are out there.

Its pretty gutted right now, was excepting a huge bonus for work and got nadda....so its on hold-ish. Don't worry I take a buttload of pics of every piece I take apart, Plus I have alot of experience with carbs. Wamting above freezing temps so I can at least clean frame outside.

    With CV carbs?
With adjusting the air jets and spring rates so the main needle lifts in a manner appropriate for the new airflow and jetting?
If so, please document what changes you make to get the carbs to fuel correctly and put a writeup into the DYI section.

The best anyone has managed so-far is to find a set of pods that doesn't mess up the fuel delivery too badly.
