Just installed a MAC 4 into 2 turnout exhaust system, and love the look, but have noticed a bit of air puffing out where each of the mufflers attach to the header pipes. I tightened them down as much as possible without snapping them off, but still a bit of leakage. Should there be some sort of slip on gaskets here? I installed new exhaust/header pipe gaskets, but saw nothing in terms of needing muffler gaskets. Bike does run alright, but I think a full carb tune/sync is ultimately needed now.

I did see a few people posting about that. There is no way a gasket will fit around the header pipe underneath the muffler, so the RTV gasket may be the option. Kind of ticks a guy off that a system which isn't supposed to require a gasket would leak air.

Maybe you got one that was built on a Monday or a Friday and the tolerances were only so-so. But I'm surprised that the manufacturer wouldn't have suggested the sealer when the unit sold just to avoid conversations like these showing up on forums. Let us know if this did fix the problem. Good luck.

Sorry for the late response; I never check the email associated with my account here, but had to today and saw the topic response.

I tried to attach a photo, but the system wouldn't let me, so I uploaded on into my gallery you can look at. I painted my kick stand in the pic, so that's what the paper covering that section of the exhaust was for.

Don't have any other photos at the moment. Bike has been at Yamaha dealer for over 4 weeks as of Friday for a carb rejet, sync and tune. They ordered new gaskets and needles over a week ago, but still not done. I'm as annoyed with their service as they are with my calls at this point.

I had that exhaust on mine I never could get it to run right it would always bog and cough down low and come on like a raped ape up top. Yes it leaked too! Finally found a stock exhaust on ebay (took 4yrs of searching) but it runs strong now.
I just finished rebuilding it though with the big bore kit and it still runs great!
