Just wanted to join up for the tips and tricks for my new/old Maxim.

I have owned bikes in the past but this one was the first bike I have really taken a chance on. It was barn fresh when I bought it and had not run in 2 years. The guy I got it from did all the maint on it and stored it right. The carbs are clean and the tank has no rust.

I am really looking at not taking the purist route with it and going into a cafe style bike.

    Anyways.. 'Llo from Missouri!

Welcome from VA! It will help us all out if you would post your bike and your location in your signature block. Who knows, you might have someone close to you who could lend you a hand if you get into a spot. Welcome again.

Strangely enough I had put in the info in my signature but it didn't save. The Maxim is a 1980 650. She currently runs but I am turn on going pod vs stock on the air cleaners. I have been digging thru to see what issues people are running into.

Another welcome to the forum! You will absolutely find more than one opinion here to every problem you may post. Some opinions will be echoed & o'course that makes them the ones with the bell ringing clue attached.

You may want to keep your original parts just in case you run into problems you don't seem to find solutions to; Many times (not all) you'll find the solution is backtracking to what was original on the bike and you'll be happy to have your original parts available to recover from the mess.

An advantage you have is your bike is one of the ones that many people also enjoy having and there's a lot of parts available because of that and more, there's a lot of experience you'll find shared here because of that...

Search exhaustively here & you'll probably find all answers to whatever you may be wondering about.

I had em listed on craigslist locally for $275 for the whole works. The top case needs a new lock. The lower bags need to be picked and keyed. The owner of the bike before me had lost all the keys except the ignition.

The bags are Yamaha branded Krauser bags with all the mounts.

The fairing is a Vetter Windjammer V with the mount for the Xj650.

I am not sure if it will bolt up to that bike, There is a cross member it bolts to on my bike. I'll be able to look at it tonight and get a picture of the mount. I would be willing to ship it but all packing and shipping will be your responsibility financially.

###Update : I was looking at the mounting instructions for the 650 and it seems like more of a generic mounting. The hard part would seeing if the down tubes on your frame are the same as the 650. I would tend to doubt it but you are welcome to try.
