Good Day All...new member, first post. Long time rider of a 2003 FJR1300...also new owner of 1982 XJR 750 SECA...just picked up today...a sadly neglected bike but pretty much stock-leaving aside the shocking paint job. The bike is intended for my girl friend once it is reliably running...and maybe down the road a little modification.

Job one is to check fluids, get a little gas in the tank and see if it will fire...battery is dead, clutch cable broken and I can't get the gas cap open. Key works in the seat release, helmet lock and ignition but the cap won't open...any suggestions other than a drill and brute force?

The drive line is similar enough to the FJR that I'm comfortable tearing it down but it has been forever since I've messed with carbs, much less 4 of them. I do like fuel injection. Lots of info here and that is a good thing.

Welcome icedog, Seca 750 is nice bike once you get it all sorted out. The gas cap being stuck is not a good sign. May indicate a rusty tank on the inside. Search this site there are few good suggestions on dealing with a stuck cap. Starting from putting some pbbaster in the shaft (preferably kriol) for a few days to drilling out the key cylinder in a more extreme case. Once open, don't put any fuel in the tank if it looks rusty. Clean the tank first. You don't want that gunk to make it to your carburetors. Albeit, it's very likely will need cleaning though. Don't know what your experience level is. Let us know, and if you lack the experience, people here will let you know what you need to check. Especially the safety related components. First step is to get the service manual.

Thanx....not new to bikes (no one works on my FJR but me) and long mechanical history so I'm pretty comfortable with dirty hands. Previous owner had the bike running as recently as 2 months ago but tank will be inspected before putting any gas into it. Tires are toast so while the wheels are off all the brake lines will be replaced and master cylinder and calipers rebuilt and probably replace the wheel bearings as well. PO gave me a "new" battery but it was dead so it's on my battery tender right now. I want to confirm starting circuit is good, lights, and to see if the computer works. Speedo has a broken pointer and the trip meter won't reset. Plenty to work on before it actually rolls anywhere. I have the Haynes book but might spring for a copy of the Yamaha book as well. Let the fun begin.
