Just thought I would say hi, after being directed here from Craigslist.

I just bought a 1981 xj650 and so far, I LOVE her. She is my first bike and besides a small oil leak, all seems to be working rather well. I am told they are... occasionally fussy? Anything I should be aware of?

I should ask all you many riders... anyone know the types of compatible windshields and sissy bars (and other components) I can get for her? Eventually, I will wish a passenger and well, a windshield is just good to have.

Also, safety gear advice. I got some great advice, but more knowledge doesn't hurt, just a lack of gear.

i'm going to poke around the site and look all over for bits of info...

    Thanks!

It's all in the carbs- - get them meticulously clean, and while the bike is apart, rear brakes and tires !!

    Welcome to the site !!

If you're on a budget and not a fashion snob convertible textile gear is the way to go. It's a little spendy but it's the only gear you'll ever need. I have a pair of Joe Rocket Alter Ego pants I can honestly say if I had to ride the rest of my life with just one set of garb, those would be it. They don't pull birds like leather but in the summer their a hell of a lot cooler and in the winter they're a helluva lot warmer.
What's your CL handle? mine's the same.

Some pointers on these forums include filling out the location field in your profile and adding some info about your bike in your Sig line so that when you ask a question and we want to answer it by looking something up we won't have to ask every time.
