Near Asheboro there is the North Carolina Aviation Museum - about 87 miles one way (comparable to our ride to the Tank Museum in Danville).

Thought it would be a neat ride. I'm pretty open for Saturdays. What do you guys think? We will need to settle on a date and hope for good weather.

    Bill,

I like the idea...let's try to plan for it towards the latter part of July?

I like the idea, lets plan a few weeks in advance so I can be sure to have the day off.

    hey guys,
Include me in this trip. I'll be coming from Kannapolis, so I'll meet you there. It's a great museum. If anyone else from the Charlotte area is going, let's ride up together. I know a great route! I am open to any weekend except 7/25-26.

I will also like to go, but I cannot go until well after my baby is born. My wife is due within the next two weeks, July 31st as the due date. and I would need to be around for that. :) other than that I would like to go. 87 miles is not that far, but I'm wondering what route are you planning on taking Bill? and what's the plan as far as stops, time table etc. I think you can set up route trips on google and save them and then forward to friends.

I'm new to the site and new to the Raleigh area and would like to participate if the date works out. Please keep me posted and I would like to ride with some fellow XJ owners. Actually never seen another XJ on the road so it would be pretty exciting for me. Thanks.

Eddie - planning to run down 64 right now. Stops are kind of random - we'll stop for gas visit the museum then grab lunch and head back I think.

NATOM - welcome, in the general area we have 6 or 7 forum members with XJs. I commute to RTP every chance I get. We try to do a charity ride or other ride every few months and get together for lunch when we can. We also help each other out with maintenance etc.

What are you riding? I have most of the special tools for tune ups.

Bill - thanks for the welcoming... Just moved down from MA in May...haven't transferred plates yet..but have gone out a few times.
I ride an 85 XJ700 Maxim with 16K miles on it. It's my first bike and I don't know much about mechanics, so I usually bring it to one to do any work. Not much needed though since I bought it, just tires, brakes, and oil changes. Would love to go for a ride sometime...no job yet...so free most days.

A fun stop for lunch would be the Harley museum in Asheboro. It's just down the road from the airfield.

Great Idea. OK we need some dates - let's plan for August to give folks a few weeks - How about planning for August 8th with a rain date for August 15th?

I'm in. I can probably find some non-XJ vintage bike riders to come along if that's okay?

I've put it on my calendar. Also, I've been to the Harley Museum and restaurant in Asheboro. It's worth the visit. All the Harleys are restored collectors items. A very impressive collection. And the museum itself is free.

See link to harley museum here,

I have the day clear, I have some friends who would like to go. Do you have an idea what time and where we will meet and which route we will take? I would rather ride US64 to 49 to get to Charlotte, I40 can be a little rough.

I'm all set for the 8th as well. I'm also inviting a couple of my buddy's to come along. One rides a Sportster, another a Magna. US64 seems more mellow as well. I also would like a time frame. As I wil probably have to meet you guys someplace near Raleigh. I'm really looking forward to this trip. :)
