I have an 81 xj650 midnight maxim. I have been fixing it from the ground up. I am new to the motorcycle world. This is my first bike. I got it from my father in law that had it sitting in his garage for many years after it was given to him. The last piece to this is installing the kickstand. It only had the center stand when I got it. The side stand mount was broken off. I bough the kickstand for it and had a friend make a new mount and weld it on. The only problem I am having now, is installing the spring. I think I have all the correct hardware, but I'm not sure if I have the correct spring anchor. Please help with either pictures or video of what it should look like and how to install.

Somebody recently posted a great photo of that. Let me try finding it.

^That is similar, but not same-same.

This is from my 750, but is same-same as 650.

Don't mind the dirt. She gets a bath once a year whether she likes it or not.

^Thank you for the reply. The pictures are not showing up. They are showing as broken. Do you have another link to them by chance?

The links worked. Thank you. I now know that I have the wrong stand. So I just going to have to make it work and fabricate something for it.

After looking at the pictures a little closer, I think your bike is a different style. Is it the Midnight maxim 750? Your shifter is positioned different. I will take a picture later to show what mine looks like.

Mine is the Seca 750. The stands are different, but the mounting arrangement is identical.

I see it now. I have been looking at the regular maxim stand. I bought the wrong stand on eBay. Thank you for all your help. I will be making a custom pin for the spring to latch on now.
