Your going to have issues with the width of the double backbone on the xjs fitting a lot of custom tanks. This leads to major surgery to switch to a single backbone or to widen the tunnel on the tank. Either that or you have to sit the tank on top of the frame. You are going need to move mounts or build custom mounts in all likely hood as well.

Yep. I'm seeing that. However, that may be the best of limited options.

All tank swaps I've seen have involved major surgery..... with that being said, how much for your old tank? :)

If your not a good fabricator those tanks are gonna sit way to tall on top of the backbone.

I put an 81 xs 1100 tank on mine. Just hammered the tank a little underneath to help sit a little lower . Turn out alright, no major surgery to the tank.

You can put a V-Star 650 tank on it with little to no mods.

Uh....not in my experience. I bought a 650 v-star tank to try. The tank is too tall, too wide, and too low on the bottom. the bracket for the dash cluster protrudes as well.

I have not figured out a way to make it sit evenly without interfering with something, et. Other work is in the way right now, so will get back to that SOMEtime.

Well I finally found one of those posts with the V-Star tank mod.
    http://www.xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=30745.html

This one is a 700, I think the other was a 750. Your right about the tank being too wide at the seat. What about a Fazor or Radian tank? You may just have to make something fit. Harley split tanks could be made to fit, would need to cover the middle gap though. J&P Cycles had a set for $125.

Yeah, that looks like the 650 vstar tank on there. I'm sure he did quite a bit of modding to get that to fit therre, too. I'd be interested in seeing what was actually done besides just rotating the horns. It's tough to tell.....I'm wondering if there risers handlebar risers. A set of XV110 tripple trees with THOSE risers would give good clearance---I'll have to play with that possibility a bit....
