    Ok, I have two questions.

I'm getting new tires, the rear tire is a 5.10-16, Im having a real hard time finding tires in this size. What size would this be in the normal xx/xx - 16?

    Also my front tire is a 100/90 - 19.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what tire to actually buy, theres alot out there and it would be good to get some opinions of people who actually ride on them.

My rear tire is 130/90vr16 Dunlap front 100/90v19 Dunlap

not sure what your 5.10/16 converts to but it should be 130/16 if my conversion is correct. I think 650 has same rims

The tire size listed above are correct for my '81 650 Maxim.

I try to buy accessories, cables, levers, tires, etc. from an independant shop that is currently 40 miles frm my house (used to be 10 miles away) but I still like the place.

I need tires for my bike and he quoted my $170 for the pair mounted and balanced, $50 more if they have to take the wheels off the bike. Ths price is for Dunlops. I didn't ask him which model but I'm guessing E3's or GT501. Kind of a no brainer where I'll get my tires.

Good out-the-door price! Most shops won't even OFFER to pull them off the bike.

I haven't tried em, but I'm hearing great things about Avon AM26's. They're speed rated, high performance in all conditions and low priced. I was quoted $230 for the pair. I'm going to install them pretty soon and I'll report back.

I have an '82 Yamaha XJ650J that I'm keeping as ORIGINAL as possible, as I am also the ORIGINAL owner.
Sheesh that makes me old. STOP your dang calculating on my age!
Anyway.... my bike has Dunlop K391S "Sport Elite" on front & rear.
    Front: 100/90 V19
    Rear: 130/90 V16

I have no idea if they still make them, how much, or anything else.
I just know that that's its ORIGINAL set-up.

    I love this place!

Let's see...if you bought the bike at 16, that'd make you around 42...assuming you didn't buy the bike until you were 25, that'd make you.... ;)

I'd love to have bought one of these new off the showroom floor. I'm currently running Dunlops as well, 404's I think they are. Earlier this week I found the original tool kit hidden under the seat, never thought to look back toward the tail-light area. 8O

the PO of my '81 had just put a set of new D404's on it right before I got it and I love 'em. I have been considering Avons for the '83 just because all I've run for the last umpteen years has been Dunlop... But then again, the Secas are supposed to be "sportier" than the Maxim...

I run Metzler Lasertec front and rear.
A bit pricy ~250 for both + the mounting<which you could do yourself>
Chapparal Motorsports has an outstanding setup

The metzlers go peg to peg and they already have about 9,000 miles on them.
They are still going strong, I love german tires

I am running Dunlop 404's. They work fine and the price was right.
The local Yammy shop wanted 100 bucks to remove the rear wheel,89 bucks for a 404, and 35 for balancing. I brought my rear wheel to a Suzuki/Honda dealer.
80 bucks for the same rear tire and 20 for balancing.

I'm running Brigestone Spitfires too. $115 for the pair and $30 for the mounting at my local shop (not a dealer, they work just on old bikes) :D
