Hey everybody! Just like everyone else that's new to the forums, I've been poking around here for some time and finally decided to join. I actually have two maxims. Both are '82's a 400 and a 750, and have had them for years... I've been thinking of modifying one of the bikes, and having a difficult time deciding whether to or not because I don't know if it's blasphemy or not. I know it's all up to me, and I really have the itch to put my touch on one or both. Both need some cosmetic tlc, but the 400 needs the most.

    What would you do?

I'm in love with the way skylark62 has gone with his build. I also saw that the 400 is a little on the rare side.

I'm gonna have a lot of ideas and questions for you guys so beware. :D

Welcome IMWirtz79. I know what you mean about feeling it could be blasphemy to cut up a perfectly good motorcycle. I had the same feeling when I was looking for a donor for my project. I reconciled my dilemma by choosing one in such a poor state that it could have been considered 'dead' by some. The donor just happened to be an XJ650, a bike I wouldn't normally chose to own or ride. If all goes to plan I will end up with a unique bike, one that I've stamped my mark on but with the essence of a very capable Japanese classic. I've looked at skylark62's project and this guy seems very talented with a wealth of resources at his disposal but there is very little of the original bike left. Of course this is fine and it's entirely up to him how far he goes with his modifications as it it with your own project. It's entirely up to you. Good luck with whatever you choose to do and keep us posted.

Welcome! The 400 is a bit rare, I wouldn't cut that one up, unless it's in poor condition....

Keep them both original......bobbing XJ Maxim's is just not right.....these bikes just have a look that does not need bobbing.....if you want a bobber, buy a harley......but that is Just My Opinion.....

Well thank you for the welcom guys! I appreciate the love you have for these bikes. If i were to do anything to these bikes at all i would not make a bobber. That belongs on a Harley, and no thanks. I like the cafe bikes and sport bikes. I honestly think the 400 would be an awesome cafe racer, and the 750 i kinda wanted to possibly sport it up. I have ideas how I would do it but will have to wait until I finish this schooling I'm about to be starting. Yay welding boot camp! I never thought it would take me until I was 33 to finally figure out what to do with my life. 15 weeks and I'll finally have a path that has practical aplications. Sorry to tell the life story... just a little excited and really nervous.

Leave em as is. Paint job? Yeah sure. Front fairing? Meh maybe.
Dont chop it up.. They make terrible bobbers and look worse than Harleys.
    Thats bad
