    disfigured,

I'm looking at an XJ1100 to do the same thing. I can get the bike for $400 but I'll have to put the engine back together. He's done the lower end work, main bearings, primary chain and 2nd gear. Left to do will be top of engine and carb cleaning.

    It should be fun.

Truly the only way to be intimately acquainted with your ride is to spend that quality time rebuilding it. You forge bonds that transcend material possession, you become part of it. To me, it is a Zen type of thing. Get to the hacking and you will find the greatest joy is firing up the machine after a lengthy rebuild, it causes your heart to sing. Each day spent subsquent to your efforts will be filled with joy at the result of your labors. You will have a "sixth" sense about it when you ride, you'll know every sound and tick. Good luck!

i was hopeing for a simmilar feeling today when i took the rear master cylinder in to work to disasemble and polish. but after cleaning i noticed that most of the grime was corrosion. and eventually the thing crumbled in my hands! i was not happy.
so the first thing i wanted to clean is the first thing on my to buy list. thats not a good start.
