Hello all! I just bought my first motorcycle, a 1982 XJ650 Maxim. I got the bike in a trade and it needs a good bit of work, but I am excited to start a new project and get the old bike back on the road. Are there any other WV member here?

Pic of the bike...I don't think I did too bad for $100.

Where in WV? Looks like a good deal. Get it fixed up properly before you go riding.

Looks great for the price, doesn't beat another recent new guy who got a gorgeous 750 free mind

A few links for what to check first safety-wise are in my signature below. You'll also find visiting chacal's "church of clean" and BigFitz52's "airhead valve adjustment" threads will be a big help to getting the bike running the way it should.

Welcome, you're in the right place to get her all sparkly & on the road safely ready for riding season :)

Got a good find there. :). I would strongly recommend that youfind the support bar that goes behind the seat.....it goes up behind the seat to almost the top and helps support the weight against it. You would need the longer bolts for as well as the spacer/ bushings for each side.
