Hi all we have just bought a 1981 XJ750 which has been imported into the UK from Fairburn CA.
Even though I wanted a Seca back in the 80's they where very rare in the UK but my son wanted to do a brat scrambler type bike and he liked the shape of the tank, frame and wheels.

I did try and tell him that he would be better off with a Kawasaki 750 from the 80's due to the fact that we can find more parts for them over here.

Anyway the bike is in good rust free condition but a bit sun burnt so when we got it home I changed the oil and freed up the carbs and after using a battery from my Versys I got the bike running and after removing the front brakes took it around our industrial park to check out the gears.

The bike has only done 11,000 miles and is still on its original tyres but it looks like the crank seal is leaking so I think it will need to be stripped down.

I have been reading the information on this site which is excellent by the way and to be honest if it was not for the information available on here I would have not gone along with the option of the Yamaha due to the very poor parts availability in the UK .

I will be reading as much as I can on each part of the bike that I need to work on but I think I will also be needing to ask some questions from owners of these bikes once I have the time to start stripping the engine and carbs.

    Cheers
