    Hello all.
Within the last month I was fortunate enough to buy my first bike, an '80 XJ650 Maxim and with the help of this site it is now running. There are however a few things that require a little spit and polish to make this bike a beauty.
This past weekend I managed to pull apart and clean both the starter and carbs to get it running almost perfectly, but unfortunately the idle seems a little off yet (oddly especially when coming to a stop the bike tends to stall). Is there anyone that may have some insight into this dilemma?

Welcome to the site. I don't have an answer to your idle question, other than turn the idle adjustment up, but I'm sure someone will step up and help you. I'm 2 1/2 hours east of you on Hwy #16. I'm going to try to organize an Alberta ride in the near future, to get some XJ riders together. I'll contact you then.

Adjust the Idle Adjustment Rod (Rear; between middle Carbs) in a little bit and see what happens with the performance of the Bike.

Give us a report on the following:

Color of all Plugs (photo of the ends 1 thru 4)
What happens after you make the Idle adjustment and pull-away and accelerate after a stop.
The Brand and Plug Gap of the Plugs you are running.
    What Fuel you are using.

Plugs are all brand new "NGk" gapped to spec so they are not the problem as far as i know. All four are firing.
I'll try the idle adjustment tonight if i get time and see if it makes a difference.
The gas is Premium unleaded (91 octane).

One thing I have noticed is there is slight leaking in the exhaust pipes (they are 4 into 2) right at the connection to the muffler cone. will probably have to replace these sometime in the near future.

An Alberta ride sounds good to me just let me know when and I'll be there.
