Hey guys and gals! So I recently was given a younger sister to my '82XJ650, one month younger from the dates on the sticker. This will be my wife's ride eventually so I'm gonna keep every thing as stock as possible with maybe a few upgrades. Anyway we are the 3rd owners of this bike, the second owner is my father-in-law who's had it since '84. It has sat for several years and needs to be completely gone through. So...first question. I've pulled the carbs and they are frozen solid but I've got a line on a set from an '82 XJ750. I'm assuming the jets are probably different between the 650 and 750 but are there any other differences between these carbs that I should know about?

Sorry for the long post, figured a little background would be good. I'm sure I'll have more questions as this goes on. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I've got a set of Hitachi 650 carbs with the Hitachi 750 jets swapped into them running in my 750 at the moment... seems to run a charm, although I'm swapping the 750 carbs back in later after I finish doing the float levels...again (FYI:dropping 2mm off the standard height to allow for expansion, cause when its hot its like I left the choke on to start, fingers crossed.).

All the parts seemed the same as I bought the same gear from, chacal for both sets of carbs to refurbish, except,
    1. The idle screws were coarse in the 650 carbs and fine in the 750 carbs
    2. The bowls seemed to have the ability to have drain screw on either side on the 650 carbs but were only single sided on the 750 carbs
    3. And of course the jets were different... I swapped the needle also but didn't actually look at the size on it but you would think it would be different also.

Thanks! That's what I needed to know. After further inspection I may not need new carbs after all and the set of 750 carbs I was looking at are apparently made of gold from the size of the price.
