    A brief introduction...

New guy to the forum, but not new to the XJ bikes. I learned to ride on a 1981 650XJ. My father bought it in 1985 from a little old lady down the road... no really! As far as I know, the dealer installed the Pacifico Aero fairing. I've never seen this bike with a standard headlight.

A few years later, he taught me how to ride a big boy bike on this motorcycle. When I went away to Auburn for school, I took it with me because there was motorcycle parking at every building, but no student car parking anywhere around.

Once I graduated, I titled it back over to Dad (1999). He recently decided that he doesn't ride it enough to justify insurance, so I've taken it back over.

It's a good bike overall. It need to be cleaned up. The mufflers have sheetmetal/JB Weld/hose clamp patches on them. It could use a gasket set. I thought about trying to get all the hardware to put a regular headlight on it. I searched the internet for my type of fairing and found very little, so I guess I'll leave it like it is cause the fairing is in pretty good shape. Needs new exhaust.

I look forward to learning alot from you all on here.

    Later...

Hey Chris, Welcome to the forum! Say homie- you live way down there in Florida, maybe think about yanking that sweet fairing and going Nekkid? It's exciting! Nice looking Maxim either way, have fun! There are tons of big brains here and they can help you solve any challenges you have and usually inspire you to do it yourself..

Hey Chris. I'm at Auburn right now and I just bought my 550 for the same reason, parking is incredible! It used to be that I had to leave my trailer on wire rd. 45 min before class to make it on time, but now I can do it in 10. Anyways, nice bike and War Eagle!
