Newbie Starter Cable Question

    Isn't the cold start or "choke" cable suppose to "seat" in the sleeve on the left hand control switch? I've bought a aftermarket cable that is suppose to custom fit my 650j. It just slips in and out of the sleeve on the control switch. Here's the kicker, the damaged OEM starter cable does the same thing. I don't want to buy another if it's going to do the same thing. Help.

    Take out the slack where it clamps to the carburetor rack.

    Same problem here, and I've done what you suggested -- it's still a tad too long. (shrug)

    They WILL "fall out" when the lever is in the the "full off" position; that's how you can disenage it from the housing. Both of my 550s are like that too.

    All you need to do is gently "close up" the little pocket on the perch that the ferrule goes into so it slightly grabs the end of the cable. And, as Carl said, ensure it's properly adjusted.
