Thanks for the great tips here. I just bought a XJ700X 2 weeks ago that wasn't running and had been in storage for 10 years.
The previous owner had the carbs of 2 times and couldn't get it to run right.
I followed the carb cleaning instructions and bench sync and now it runs great. Just have to check the cable routing before I ride it. At full lock right it adds 1000rpm not god but a easy fix.
The bike has 10,000 miles and was stored inside.I bought it for a 2nd bike to my honda valkyrie.
Im suppriesd its pretty quick for a 700 cruiser, has some good power over 5000rpm.
I think it will make a good 2nd bike for commuting 8 miles to work and short weeknight rides.

    Thanks for the info again!

    Real easy fix.

Pull off the tank and turn the bike to the right and watch the cable ... right where it dives down to make the hook-up to the Carbs.

If you see it pull forward ... just pull it back.
Wrap the cable to the frame or the wiring harness with some tape or just snug it to something with a couple of cable ties.
