I have just bought a Yamaha JX 750 Magnum last week and the last owner referred me to this site! I have learned alot already from the forums.

First question: My bike tends to cut off once i have it in idle and in gear with the brake off! In neutral it stays running in idle but once i place it in gear it cuts off. So i have to give it some gas to stay alive. I have told to check out the needle that controls the idling. Anyone have any suggestions on this topic?

Second question: My bike died at the gas station last night (I blieve to have a ground in my system somewhere due to battery dieing so fast) I left it there over night and came back this morning to grab it... It started and everything was fine then i tried to put it in first gear... I was holding the clutch the whole time and went to first gear and right when i pressed down the engine cutoff.... Happened multiple times... i even tried to go to 2nd gear to see if it would stay running... Can anyone help me with this trouble?!?!?

Thanks for all your help guys.... I appreciate it and Hope you guys have a great labor day weekend!

it sounds like you have a relay sticking

down by your sidestand is a plunger relay that could probably use some cleaning. that is the first place I would start.
that relay keeps the bike from running while the sidestand is down.

Yes, and there's a second switch (not relay) mounted to the clutch lever, be sure it's in place and works. To remove the lever switches, find a hole under the mount and push a slim screwdriver in to release the locking tab. Bill

The side-stand one is a switch, not a relay, as well.

You could try removing the side-stand relay (4-pin, with Black/White, Red/White, Blue/Yellow, and Black wires running to it) to see whether that stops the bike dying when put into gear. If it does, then that means you have a problem with side-stand switch, the clutch switch, the diode block, or that the PO did some creative (and incorrect) rewiring.

By the way, I'm know it's bugging the others too, so I'll say it: It's an XJ750 Maxim, not a JX 750 Magnum.

    Cheers,
    Paul
