Looks like my turn. I have been very lucky with carb issues - basically none until this spring. As history, bike has always run perfectly, has been fine tuned at a carb clinic, etc. Now after setting most of the winter I have a low speed miss.

Bike is typical cold-blooded Maxim 750, starts first turn with EC on. As bike warms, I can reduce EC to smooth 1050 idle.

After warm, in neutral, bike will take gas perfectly, no miss.

Put bike in gear, give light throttle to take off, bike stumbles and misses.

Continue to give a bit more throttle, engine suddenly smooths out and will run up as far as you want without any issues - strong and smooth.

Throttle down to moderate cruising speed, where throttle is only turned 1/16 to 1/8 inch, and bike begins to stumble again. I have noticed that it seems to improve a bit during a long ride.

So, I obviously seem to have a low-speed circuit issue in one of the carbs. I will pull the carbs and check all of the jets for blockage, but I think I have read here that there other ports in the carbs that affect low speed running. Is there anyone who can describe where they are and maybe even a picture of where they are located? I'm leaving on a three day bike trip through the Texas hill country a week from today and really do not have time to pull these things more than once so want to do it right first time.

I know there are some super carb guys here and can really use a pointer or two. Thanks, guys.

Just pull the carbs and check out the jets inside the float bowls. The smaller jets are dirty. You might be able to do a quicky and get going again. If they are nasty you'll be doing a full blown carb clean/ overhaul.

Thanks, MN. They will get pulled, for sure and the jets are easy. It's the little ports in the body of the carb I wonder about. Doubt the carbs are nasty - runs too sweet except for that irritating low speed issue. Got to be some sediment from sitting.

Can anyone tell me how to locate that great post that takes you through every step of the cleaning process? I've seen it in the past and should have printed it. Can't even remember who wrote it.
