Here's where I am with the current project.
Viper fairing, seat w/cowl, clubmans, signals all here awaiting reassembly. I have a few things to do as I go along-- paint calipers and forks, new pads and seals, pods/rejet, replace shifter seal, pipes are all welded up and wrapped, rework harness that is hacked up... I'd like to get it done within a month, then either sell it, or ride it while I repaint the xj through the "off" season. We'll see though. Probably sell and move to another project.

It's paint. I spent a lot of time on prep, and I'm trying to take my time and do things correctly.

I don't have anything specific in mind, just whatever falls in my lap, kinda like this one did. I missed a few that I wish I would have bought, but the time/price was right on the Kaw, so I took it. I'm having fun, and getting to know a lot. I'm not sure what the next project will be, but I'm pretty sure it'll be of the "ridiculous custom" genre. Just to see how creative I can get with a welder. Maybe in this vein, although I doubt I'll have a Norton fall in my lap.

    OMG!

I can't believe that someone would do that to a Norton.
    I can see Chopping a Kaw up ... but, I wouldn't ever think about cutting-up a Norton.

    Restoring it ... sure!
But, going that radical on one of the Worlds most revered British Classics ... that makes me shiver.

I don't know if I'd call that cutting up a norton... I think i'd call it painting part of a norton motor red and putting it in a wacky frame, hah.

Looks like someone twisted up a perfectly good frame and slapped a motor on it for a joke. Yikes! Nice work on the Kow, I like the color!

New seat pan came today, I'm super stoked, despite the hassle/run-around of buying it through ebay. Too bad-- it's a great product, and I'd be inclined to buy more if the seller wasn't such a kook. Anyways, I got the mounting brackets all welded in and except for a couple bushings to level it out, I'm really pleased with the outcome.

Threw the engine in and fired her up last night. Still some work to do before she's on the road, but it runs. I have to finish the seat, turn signals, brake/tail light, some exhaust work, and possibly a new clutch cable. I'm sure I'm forgetting something.

Thanks, I put a lot of time into it.

Last night I noticed a few things and made some changes. The forkes pushed up through the trees lowered the bike a bit too much and the fender was hitting the horns on really big hits so... I took off the clip-ons, and reverted to clubmans, and also took off the fairing, put on a new clutch cable, and mounted the rear signals and tail light. I need to get a new shift shaft seal, touch up some paint and colortune one last time, but I'm prettymuch done with this one. I'm gonna have a hard time selling it, it's real smooth, quick and wants to go like a motherfrigger...

Lookin good - is the fairing easily removed/attached?

I think it looks great/better without it - but it'd be cool to be able to put it on for highway.

    Really dig both projects.

Yeh, It's super easy to get on and off. There are 2 brackets on the headlight bucket, and 2 bolts on the fairing that secure it. 3 minutes with a phillips head and the jobs done. I think i like it better without it also.

Yes, 4 into 2. They are pretty generic, I cant find a name on them anywhere, but they sound real good, and have minimal baffles. They were from some sort of v-twin, both for right side mount, I cut and adapted them to fit.

I'm entertaining offers on the Kawasaki project. Post here, PM me, or email kevin (at) 70-71 (dot) com. Not looking for lowball offers, I don't NEED the money.
