HI, I am working on a 650 I got, the clymer manual still isn't here, but I'm almost done I think. I put new coils on it, but they didn't have any numbers on them for cylinders. Am I right the numbers are 1-4 starting left to right for the engine, sitting on top of it? Then, is the Red and Orange power to the coil for the right side, and the gray one for the left, then can somebody tell me what numbers on the coil go where, like the top coil wire for the orange and red one goes to number____ the bottom coil wire on that one goes to Number___ . I've done the firing order both 1-4 - 4-1 and it runs the same both ways! My center cylinders don't seem to be firing, they are all 4 getting good spark though! I need to get the MANUAL!!!!!
I CAN'T BELIEVE THE STINKING DEALERSHIPS DON"T CARRY CLYMERS ANYMORE!! I LIVE NEXT TO SEVERAL LARGE SHOPS.NONE HAVE IT
    Thanks

My manual doesn't show which colors go to which coil. Should be easy for you to figure out by trial and error.

One coil is for cyls 1 & 4, the other 2 & 3. Doesn't matter which of the high tension leads goes to which plug, just make sure 1 & 4 are on one coil (stock is the one on the LH side I believe) and 2 & 3 connect to the other coil.

Each cylinder gets sparked once per revolution at Top Dead Center. One spark is wasted as it occurs between the exhaust and intake stroke, the other is at the top of the compression stroke. When 1 is being wasted 4 is firing, when 1 is firing 4 is wasted. Same for 2&3.

Hook them up. If it doesn't fire switch the primary leads to the coils.

Oh, and you are correct, the cylinders are numbered 1 - 4 from the left (although it doesn't matter for the ignition system). Outside cyls on one coil, inside on the other.

I always match the colours of the wires off the coils with the colours off the wiring harness connectors. There is a white tracer off the harness wires but they still match up.

Example: on coil wire is red, on harness, wire is red with white stripe

    Good luck.
