Okay guys, how feasible is this. As I get closer to getting the Seca back on the road, doing short test rides up and down the street testing the brakes and gearbox, I keep looking at the junker Honda CBR 600 I have propped up against a tree. It has air-adjustable forks and dual caliper front brakes that appear to be in decent shape. Is a swap possible or even desireable? I keep seeing the photos of the European market 550's with the dual front brakes and keep thinking how nice it would be to have them on my bike.

hmmm.... get out the micrometer and tape measure and do as much measuring as you can... if it looks possible after you've done that much research i'd go ahead and try it

I have the fork set up from an '89 fz600 and the it slides right in. haven't permanently mounted it yet...still need new brakes for the dual caliper.

I haven't made the swap on my 550 Seca yet. I want to get the bike back to being completely roadworthy before I start modifying it. I am rather curious to see how Bane's swap turns out. I'm wondering if you would need to change out the triple-trees also?

not unless they're extremely different diameter of tubes...

It may be easier to swap the whole front end at the bearings, if that's the same length and diameter. Anything's possible with the right tools!

What was suggested to me is to keep the stock post from your Xj, and then mount the tables from the other bike to the post, and have a bushing put in if the post on the other bike is larger in diametre. The newer bikes have larger posts, so it wouldn't be too much trouble to get them swapped. You just need a metal bushing machined to take up the slack that the hole in the table will leave on the post.

I am looking at a Hayabua fork set swap, and the posts are close to the same size.

Hope this helps and you can get on your way!

I bought the calipers and mastercylinder from an FJ to mount on my XJ I can sell you for very cheap.
The bolt holes won't work for me
The distance from fork leg to caliper is way off
and the brake disk is a different diameter.
It requires the whole front end including wheel to change my fornt brake set up from 70s type to mid 80s type dual piston calipers.
$35 for 2 calipers and mastercylinder.
