Ok, need some input and ideas
Last fall I started having "electrical gremlins"
I had a fried cdi box
replaced the cdi box, ran fine for 2 weeks then it started acting funny
at this point I just said eff it and parked it for the year
tested the Voltage Regulator and it was spiking voltage up to 17.1
so I replaced it with a new aftermarket one
I do all my maintanence for the spring
    all good
    bike starts all is good!?
    no headlight
    ugh
stupid me took the relay from the kickstand safety and put it in the headlight relay
    light comes on!
drive bike.. bike dies.. battery deader than a doornail
    new battery btw
    charge battery, drive bike home
talk to Len, ordered new parts
Len told me how to bypass the relay
    headlight comes on
drive bike around for a good 2 hours
    everything great!
took bike to the gym today.. bike dies
    battery deader than a doornail
    parts arrive in the mail
replace Kickstand Safety Relay (it was without, being without is the bypass)
    replace Headlight Relay
    bike starts.. no headlight
    bypass headlight.. it works
going to test the charging output in the am
no idea where to look next
any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like there may be a concern of something draining the battery when you have the bike off? Could try pulling the fuses after parking the bike to be sure nothing's drawing power and see if that works.
The other thing would be the charging circuit, but if you can drive a couple of hours, it's delivering something, I'm thinking.
Does the wiring look suspect? Has a previous owner done some "mods" that don't look right? There aren't *that* many wires in the bike, it might pay to go through the schematic and the bike, checking continuity to verify things are wired properly.
I'm sure others have much more experience with the things that can go wrong on these bikes.

I think I found the issue
first I swapped out the cdi unit, I have a spare
    no go
then I put the old Voltage Regulator back on.. light came on.. so
apparently the aftermarket regulator is at fault
thanks for the help everyone who gave this a read
