Okay it seemed like a good idea at the time, just like my first marriage. See how far down inside the fork it is to the damper so I can make myself one of those nifty holding tools. Just over 18 inches. Oh but the little end of the tape measure wedged itself in there tight as a drum, and guess what happens if you pull to hard? The tape breaks!
How do I get myself into these interesting situations?
I'm sure tomorrow will be a better day. :?

OR text message in the shower as my 16 year old daughter can attest to. Plays havoc with cell phones! ;-)

Just take a torch and cut through your tube, then i'm sure you can retrieve your piece and your tape will be good as new!

If it were me, I would straighten a wire hanger. If you can find one, use a hanger that is meant for pants (with the cardboard tube). Pull off the tube and you'll see a very nice, tight hook! Straighten out the hanger so you can use that hook to grab hold of the end of the tape and yank.

Remember, you don't have to pull it out with this tool. You just have to knock it loose so you can up-end the fork and dump it out.
