    Whether or not this would look alright is entirely objective. You would be the best person to answer that question.
    As for fit, I don't see a problem. The spine of the tank is flat and broad, should fit nicely.

    I have something similar on my R6. It's primary function is to protect the paint on the tank of a sport bike from scratches caused by jacket zippers due to the aggressive riding position.

    While it wouln't serve that function on a Maxim, it would probably look good and will definitely fit.

    Head over to the Auto Parts Store and pick-up some Gold car door edging.

    The edging is self adhering. Fits right on edge of the tank and up and around the front.
    2 pieces come i n a Kit and is enough to do the whole tank.
    Variety of colors; too!
