Hope I am not bothering everyone with these updates, let me know.

This week I finished the clutch assembly with the oil pump drive sprocket and all the associated clutch internal parts. I rendered this model in unusual colors to make individual parts more visible.

The finished project will have exploded views with part numbers, models you can manipulate-rotate-hide parts etc., maybe even some animated assembly videos showing the steps.

I have a long way to go on the project but getting feedback keeps me motivated to continue. The clutch pack you are looking at was approximately 30hr of modeling time as an example.

My end goal is a complete 3D model of the XJ650, this will allow me to make assembly videos, detailed parts exploded views with part numbers, and the ultimate 3D models you can manipulate.

P.s. I have also been working on securing (registering) my work for copyright protection even though you technically do not need to register work or even place the symbol on the document for protection. Thanks for the members who reminded me to look into the copyright process.

Bother us! You must be joking. What bothers me is the grainy dark photo's in the service manuals and their imprecise information.

What you are doing is not only great to look at but is also educational and useful. It blows away any other visuals I have seen for these old mechanical classics. No forum can compete with our users, and your right up there with the best of them. Please keep 'bothering' me.

Yea my clutch doesn't look that pretty either-it usually has a look of 'dangit your really raggin' me!'

Yes like Ken says keep it coming! I can see the collection being one of the most useful tools of all, is there somewhere they can be viewed?

Hogfiddles: yes I intend to make a commercial product out of my work, it will be a while before it is finished considering the time that needs to be invested.

About including FlyGp content in the CD set offered by others. I intend to make my work available but not as part of the existing CD set.

I have added some more images as you requested to show the progress on the project. The renderings are just practice runs and really do not have the level of information the final product will have. Because of Copyright stuff I am limiting what I use as preview material.

Thanks for the feedback, this is turning into a huge and expensive project and receiving feedback positive or otherwise is inspirational and helps guide what will be the final output.

    Renderings

This is a partially exploded view of the starter, this is just practice so not all the parts are shown in the sample but you can compare this to the standard type of view found in other books and online parts vendors.

    This is the back
side of the instrument cluster showing the clarity that is possible in comparison to typical photos in manuals.
This is just an overall rendering showing the progress of the font end; remember all the internal parts are also in the models so think about all of the parts inside the switch gear etc.

This rendering I did along with member Mayb4 as a tribute to all the valves BigFitz has saved by reminding us to do the valve clearance maintenance on our bikes

Keep the feedback and comments’ coming it really is appreciated

I drove without a speedo cable for about a month before I parked for the winter, so just the tach gauge works for me.

Absolutely phenomenal. I saw the first couple posts when these were first starting and I thought.....'big deal', another computer techy...... now--I am totally impressed. I can't imagine the amount of programming you must be doing. I am honestly amazed. DON'T stop until the whole bike is done. Uh, then you can do my xj900rk!!!! ;)

Beautiful rendering! When you finish the project let me know, I will absolutely pay for a copy of all of your work! It would be insanely helpful in repairs and reference especially if you are able to include 3D views with rotation and control to explode/collapse the various parts together (if you are able to do that).

I always hated the CAD projects when I was in school and know how tedious the project must be, and I have to applaud you on such beautiful work. Keep it coming please!

I check in on these when I see them. Great looking work. I suspect for some of the pieces a 3D print could be done and would work for the part.

Not that I have a new bike.... but I think it would be really great if the manufacturers put out something like this on new models. We all know they have the models already done. In this day there isn't a mass manufacturer doing it any other way.

Probably would cut into the dealerships shop time though.
