Now with added stripes...

Just got my tank and tail unit back with new paint and laquer. Also with new decals applied. This is what she now looks like.

I got a feeling you better check the direction that front tire is supposed to go Nig. Me thinks it's on backwards.

Methinks he's fine, sorry. Just went and looked at my Avons, the front sipes "point up" as do the rears...when viewed from the rear. Which means the rears "point down" if you peek under the bike.

Nige! Nice work man! I'm planning to do mine in red with that stripe package; give us some tighter side views.

 

So you are in europe? I've only seen this model in silver with blue & white stripes here in the U.S.

Firstly, thanks for getting my picture up there - how do you do that? (If I know, I can add a side view).

Second, the front tyre fitment is correct for Avon tyres. I've been made aware of this before and checked it out thoroughly, the rotational arrow is correct for front wheel. I think this may be something peculiar to Avon, as the Venom tyres on my GPZ600 (Ninja in US) are the same.

The red scheme, though not original for this particular bike, was available in the UK. I bought the bodywork from a place other than the rest of the bike and it had been finished in red by the previous owner, though this bike would originally have been silver. I like the red better, and it's a bit more unusual so I decided to stick with it.

As a point of interest, when I stripped the tank back to metal I found the original colour was a metallic blue (like the rare, blue 350LC) which I've certainly never seen on an XJ before.

The blue was one of the Euro-spec XJ650's, pretty sure NOT '82. I've got an advertising photo somewhere but I can't locate it at the moment.

The familiar silver with the blue stripes was the only color scheme for the US market ('82) while the Canadian model came in the red scheme.

 

How do you go about adding a picture which will appear here??
