Hello guys..I just did a oil change synthetic 10W40 2.6L and about 150ml of Lucas stabilizer to it with new oil filter. Previous season saw only one synthc oil change with hardly 2000 kms. I did not change oil to winterize. But right after the change now..while idling i see the level window is showing kinda dark colour which was not the case last year. Could this be because of adding generous (7ml) oil in cylinders during winterizing and i didnt drive much before this oil change? Any thoughts would apprciate. Thanks.

Sounds like the new oil picked up a bunch of residue from the old oil; storing with fresh oil is always a better idea.

Synth doesn't drive the clutch in the VStar crazy? You're lucky.

Dark oil soon after an oil chage is not necessarily a bad thing at all.
I use Dello 400 wherever I can. It is formulated especially for grungy old
soot makers(diesels) which have an extraordinary amount of incomplete
combustion particulates dropping into the crankcase. Just a couple
notes. It is also API rated which means it's good for gas burners too. It is
NOT an energy star compliant oil. I just finished a 315 mile ride, 2 up on
my SilverWing. Nary a slip of the clutch.. Couldn't keep air in the back
tire but that's another story! Back to the diesel part. Because it carries
a rating for diesel engines it has a very high level of detergent.
It apparently has a higher detergent level than Shell's Rotella which is the
oil of choice for at least one personon this forum. Rotella T is very good
oil. High detergent oils scours the old engine gunk, holds it in
suspension, and delivers it to your oil filter. Remember, the size of your
residual particulates is determined by your oil filters ability to strain them
out. This is one reason I always change the filter with every oil change.

At least I believe the above diatribe to be the truth.
