the thing is i went to the dealers and they only have'em for the turbo.

so the question is: is the oil filter for the seca 650 the same as for the
    turbo?

or which of the xj's uses the same oil filter?

i already ordered the xj cd v4 and would love to see the parts cross reference!! 8O

All my oil cooler parts for my '81 XJ650 H (normally aspirated) bolt right up off of an 83 turbo. Should be the same filter.

I know this sounds terrible, but I buy my filters @ Autozone. They were the first place I found that has them and, believe it or not, they can look up your bike and tell you what number the filter is. I believe they're STP. Probably not the highest tier filter, but they work, and they're inexpensive. I have an xj650 j (82). Less than 5 bucks.

The box says "SMO-03". It is an STP motorcycle oil filter. It comes in a red box, I believe. I'm colorblind, so it may be orange....
I don't know if that is the "part number," but that is the filter that fits my Maxim. Somebody said all the filters are the same above, so it should work. It comes with the O rings too.
I found it on their site. 3.99 Try this link:

I just bought a Fram filter today at Canadian Tire. The part number for my 1982 Seca 650 is CH6003.
