Okay so I just changed the oil on my 1983 Yamaha XJ750 and when I took off the filter bolt it seemed like it was on their very tight way over the 1.5 KG/M. And now after I have changed the oil and filter, I have a large leak when the bike is on, and a minor one when it is off.

Does this sound like just a gasket issue or something else? I can get it to slow down when I over tighten the bolt :?

    Thanks!

I suspect the housing isn't seated correctly; it's easy to catch the indexing tab at the top on a fin such that it feels tight but isn't fully seated.

That or the previous overtightning may have distorted or cracked the filter housing.

(I'm assuming both o-rings were replaced.)
